Frequently Asked Questions
What ages do you teach?
We teach children from 4 months of age, through to pre-competition level. We also teach adults who are complete beginners, those who wish to brush up on their technique, or train for an event.
How many swimmers are in a class?
All our classes now have a maximum of 6 swimmers at a time.
How long are lessons?
Lessons are held once a week and are normally 30 minutes long. Top Squad sessions are 45 minutes long.
Do teachers teach from the side or in the water?
Teachers are in the water for all our main lessons, with swimmers, which not only builds greater rapport but provides swimmers with clearer direction and, of course, greater safety.
Can both parents participate in the Tiddler class?
We allow only one parent in the water during our Tiddler classes, to avoid overcrowding the young swimmers, though parents are welcome to alternate the weeks they attend between them if they so wish.
What is your award scheme like?
It is hugely important to us that our skill sets are robust and each one is there to build on those before it, focusing our teachers on developing capable young swimmers with great technique!
What is the water temperature like?
The water temperature at our pool is set at 31°C.
What do I need to bring with me?
As well as your swimming costume, you should bring a towel and a swim nappy for those who need one. For smaller children please use double nappies. Please also provide goggles for children over the age of 2 years. We provide floatation aids. We recommend that children - particularly the very young ones - wear wetsuit-type costumes, to help them remain warm during lessons (www.mikes-diving.co.uk is a particularly good provider). For Top Squad swimmers, please also provide a drink.
Can I watch my child's lesson?
The viewing room at the facility is currently closed due to Covid-19 guidelines, however, we have provided distance-marked benches on poolside, from which lessons may be watched. There are also wet-wipe facilities for families to use to sanitise these areas before and after use. We can currently only allow one parent or guardian (plus siblings) per lesson on poolside.
Do you close for school holidays?
We remain open! Rather than run in blocks or terms, our lessons are delivered throughout the year, apart from small closures at Easter and Christmas. This ensures continuity for swimmers, which is vital in making great progress!
How do I book lessons?
Call us for a natter on 0845 8381975 or 07399 181175, or if you prefer, you can email us at email@example.com.
How do I pay for lessons?
Lessons are paid for monthly, via GoCardless, so once set up, you don't need to do anything else. If after your first lesson you decide we are not for you, whatever the reason, we promise to return all fees paid, including that for the lesson attended. Beyond this, we politely request one month's notice when you decide to cease your lessons with us.
I don't seem to receive my emails - why does this happen?
Some email providers automatically place our emails into the spam folder when they are received. Check there, then add our email address, firstname.lastname@example.org, to your address book. You should then receive any emails we send you without problem.
What if I change my mind or need to cancel lessons?
We are confident in what we deliver and hope you enjoy your time with us! You know what suits you best though, so if you decide after your first lesson that you no longer wish to continue your lessons with SWiM, we will return 100% of your fees to you.
If a swimmer wishes to pause their place due to an upcoming planned absence (such as for an operation or planned extended break, lasting three weeks or more), SWiM may hold a swimmer's place at 50% of the current lesson fee.
If a swimmer wishes to cancel lessons, one month's written notice is required. Lessons can still be attended during the notice period.
